SUSTAINABLE BEAUTY BRANDS UNITE TO COMBAT PLASTIC WASTE

Competing Companies Forge Alliance to Reduce Beauty’s Environmental Impact

United States – April 16, 2025In a world where competition reigns supreme, four disruptive beauty brands are making one bold move. BRIXY, HiBAR and Nole have joined forces to create the Plastic Free Collaborative (PFC), a joint venture non-profit 501c, built with a singular focus: to significantly reduce plastic waste within the beauty and personal care industry. The collaborative will also work to educate consumers about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and provide education/opportunities on ways to further their personal sustainability journey while working alongside retailers to develop programs that increase visibility and accessibility to products that are better for both people and planet. By pooling their resources and expertise, BRIXY, HiBAR and Nole aim to set a new standard in environmental responsibility in the beauty and personal care industries.

HiBAR President Nora Schaper:

“The goal of the Plastic-Free Collaborative is to tackle the plastic waste crisis in multiple ways, as recycling has failed as a sustainable solution. Our non-profit will work with state and federal entities to move us closer to a world with less plastic, using legislative efforts to better regulate and control the plastics industry. We’ll also use social media, press, and events to promote the importance of limiting plastic exposure for human as well as environmental health. And finally, we’ll partner with retailers to expand their educational efforts in stores. As a leader in the grocery channel, we’ve seen that shoppers are interested in plastic-free options and are game to buy them alongside groceries.

BRIXY CEO Trey Vilcoq:

“Media outlets consistently highlight studies showing that microplastics have been detected everywhere in the human body. A real threat to public health, we must work together to find new ways to formulate and package items that reduce the need for plastic.

With less than 10% of all plastic recycled each year, and the US producing over 7.9 billion units of rigid plastic for the beauty and personal care industry in 2018 alone, recycling is clearly broken. What’s equally concerning is that production of virgin plastic, which is made from planet-warming fossil fuels, is expected to increase in the next few years.  If it’s cheaper for corporations to source new packaging than to invest in safer, more sustainable alternatives, we must make changes. The PFC will spearhead a movement to educate the public about why plastic pollution is a global problem and how consumers, companies and government can come together to create a cleaner and safer world for current and future generations.”

Nolé Founder Alida Boer

“As a fully committed, plastic free company, Nolé will continue to strive to minimize our environmental impact by eliminating single-use plastic throughout our operations. We wholeheartedly support the Plastic Free Collaborative and will continue to actively seek sustainable alternatives to help protect our planet for future generations.”

The PFC welcomes companies across various beauty and personal care categories to join forces and our cause. Where they meet membership criteria - including a product line that is proudly plastic-free, having been in business at least two years, and meeting the safe ingredient standards - those followed by the founding members of the PFC.
